I am Director of Computing at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS). I and my colleagues at NCEAS have been investigating semantic approaches for improving data discovery and interoperability for over a decade, focusing on ecological and environmental data. I am PI of the Scientific Observations Network, SONet-- which is addressing how semantic models of observations and measurements arising within many earth science fields might help enhance data inteoperability. I am also a participant in the DataONE semantics working group, as well as the semantics activities within EarthCube.
